MPCL Grabs Three (3) Awards in the recently held CSR Awards 2017
CSR AWARDS – 19th January, 2017: 9th Annual Corporate Social Responsibility Summit & Awards 2017 was organized by National Forum for Environment & Health, held on January 19th, 2017 at Serena Hotel, Islamabad. This annual CSR summit / Awards is recognized and supported by the leading National & International Business and Trade Associations, Corporate Sector, NGOs, Federal and Provincial Governments.
MPCL submitted its CSR Profile, major CSR Accomplishments for the last 3 years, along with the nominations (for Awards) under following three (3) categories:
- Education and Scholarships
- Strategic Project Collaboration
- Sustainability Initiative
MPCL received three Awards as Winners in the above mentioned categories, being the only organization to secure this many Awards at the event.
On behalf of MPCL; Brig. Abdul Ghaffar Khan (Retd.) – GM (Admin & CSR), Mr. Usman Aslam (Senior Sustainability & Community Engagement Specialist) and Mr. Usman Shahid (Assistant CSR Officer) received the Awards.
In the past few years, MPCL has been able to strengthen its CSR programs by bringing key implementing partners from the development sector, as strategic partners for community development. By bringing these partners on board, MPCL CSR was able to move ahead from its brick and mortar approach to development, and now focuses not only on the hard component but also on the provision of quality service delivery, resulting in an all-inclusive CSR programming.
In the year 2016/17, MPCL has spent approximately Rs. 119 million in Mari Field Daharki for various substantial community development initiatives. Moreover, MPCL spent Rs. 29 million on account of CSR obligations at its Joint Venture Blocks in the year 2015/16, while over and above spending on CSR Programs since inception is approximately Rs. 219 million.
Few landmark projects implemented in the last year are mentioned below:
Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) & Tele-Taleem
i. Rehabilitation of GGHS, Harnai: Under the School Improvement Program, Rehabilitation of Government Girls High School (GGHS), Harnai was approved with a budget of Rs. 5.4 million. Under this project, repair/renovation of the existing building was carried out, along with the provision of furniture, computers, sewing machines, etc. Furthermore, the entire school has been shifted on solar panels for an uninterrupted supply of power during school hours.
ii. Tele Taleem (T2): Tele-Taleem (a digital distant learning initiative) is also operational at GGHS, Harnai. Through this initiative, teachers will be provided online / distant trainings (through satellite internet) and students of classes 6th, 7th and 8th will be taught Maths, Science and English subjects through direct learning / teaching component of the program.
MPCL considers CSR as an intrinsic and important part of its business culture; committed to the wellbeing of the local communities in and around its areas of operations. It is continuously contributing towards improving the quality of life of the disadvantaged communities.
