Hydrocarbon Discovery – Exploratory Well Aqeeq-1, Sujawal Block, Sindh
Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) has made a significant hydrocarbon discovery at exploratory well Aqeeq – 1 in Sujawal Block, Sindh.
The well was spud-in on March 9, 2017 and drilled down to the depth of 2,320 meters to explore/test the hydrocarbon potential of Upper Sands of Lower Goru Formation. Based on wireline logs and drilling results, testing was undertaken in Upper Sands which resulted in discovery of gas and condensate. The well flowed 5 MMSCFD gas and 21 barrels per day condensate with WHFP of 586 Psi at 40/64 inch chock size. It is highlighted that the well was drilled with MPCL’s own 2500 HP Rig Mari-3.
This gas discovery qualifies for 2012 Petroleum Policy price. MPCL currently holds 100% working interest and is the operator of the Sujawal Block.
The aforementioned discovery has further improved MPCL exploration success rate and the company is geared up to contribute further towards the national economy.
MPCL will continue to boost its potential to find additional hydrocarbons in the country, so that the ever increasing energy requirements can be met through local resources.
