Karak Block lies in Mianwali, a district in Punjab, and the districts of Karak, Bannu, Kohat, and Lakki Marwat in KPK. Within this block, there are two fields namely Halini and Kalabagh Fields, which are situated at distances of 40 kms and 18 kms from Kalabagh City in the Mianwali district, respectively.
The exploration journey in this region commenced with the drilling and completion of the initial Exploratory Well, Halini X-1, in the year 2011. Subsequent to obtaining approval for Extended Well Testing (EWT), crude oil production commenced in January 2012, facilitated by the establishment of Early Production Facilities (EPF). In August 2014, an Artificial Gas Lift system was introduced to enhance the sustainability of oil production from Halini X-1.
Continuing on this trajectory, the second Exploratory Well, Halini Deep-1, was drilled and successfully completed in April 2016, with production commencing in May of the same year. In September 2015, the third Exploratory Well, Kalabagh-1A, was drilled and completed, facilitating the injection of the first on-specs gas into SNGPL’s network in June 2017, following the setup of the necessary production and processing facilities. To maintain production levels, Kalabagh-1A was placed on compression in September 2019.
