Oil  Discovery at Shawal-1 Well in Mari D&PL, Sindh

Shawal-1 well was spudded-in on January 27, 2024 in Mari development and production lease area in Daharki, Sindh, and successfully drilled down to a total depth of 1,136 meters into the Ghazij Formation. During testing, the well produced 1,040 barrels of ~30 degrees API crude oil having 12% Basic Sediment & Water along with 2.5 MMSCFD of associated gas.

Shawal-1 is the first-ever oil discovery in Mari D&PL and has opened new possibilities, especially for infrastructure-led exploration in mature basins.

Gas Discovery at Maiwand X-I Well in Block-28, Balochistan

Maiwand X-1 exploratory well in Block-28 in Balochistan province was spudded-in on June 12, 2023, and successfully drilled down to 2,516 meters. During Drill Stem Tests, multiple promising zones were tested for a combined flow of ~7 MMSCFD of gas.

This discovery is significant for future exploration as it has revealed valuable information about the existing petroleum system of the area.

Gas Discovery at Shewa-2 Well in Waziristan Block, KP

Shewa-2 appraisal-cum-exploratory well was spudded-in the Waziristan Block on June 02, 2023, and successfully drilled it down to a measured depth of 4,577 meters. During the Drill Stem Test, the Kawagarh Formation flowed gas at a sustainable rate of 0.6 MMSCFD.

In addition, appraisal of Lokhart and Hangu, which were discovered at the exploratory well Shewa-1, was also carried out. The appraisal results confirmed the extension of hydrocarbon play in these formations. The Lockhart Formation was tested at a (post-acid) gas flow rate of 51 MMSCFD and 391 barrels of condensate per day.

Gas Discovery at Mari Ghazij-1 Well In Mari D&PL, Sindh

Mari Ghazij-1 exploratory well was spudded-in on November 24, 2022, and successfully drilled down to the depth of 1,015 meters. The post acid gas flow rate was 8.5 MMSCFD at 64/64 inch choke. The well was further tested at 128/64 inch choke, and it flowed 9.6 MMSCFD of gas.

Ghazij-1 is the first dedicated exploratory well targeting multiple Ghazij Limestone units.

Gas and Condensate Discovery at Shewa-1 Well in Waziristan Block, KP

Shewa-1 (initially named Bannu West-1) exploratory well was spudded-in on June 06, 2021, in Waziristan Block (initially named Bannu West Block), located in North Waziristan district of KP Province.

The well was successfully drilled down to the depth of 4,915 meters. During Drill Stem Test, Lockhart Limestone Formation flowed gas @ ~25 MMSCFD and around 300 BPD condensate before acid job. Hangu Formation also flowed gas @ 1.6 MMSCFD. Post acid stimulation results from Lockhart reservoir were even more impressive with gas flow rates of 50 MMSCFD.

Shewa-1 is one of the largest gas/condensate discoveries in recent past in the country and first ever in North Waziristan

Gas Discovery at Iqbal-1 Well in Mari D&PL, Sindh

Iqbal-1 exploratory well was spudded-in on July 11, 2020, and successfully drilled down to a depth of 1,250 meters into Sui Main Limestone. The well was tested at the rate of 3.127 MMSCFD gas, and 79 BPD of water from Sui Upper Limestone and Ghazij Formation.

Iqbal-1 was the 6th consecutive discovery in Mari D&PL area as a result of aggressive exploration strategy adopted by MPCL.

Gas Discovery at Hilal-1 Well in Mari D&PL, Sindh

Hilal-1 exploratory well was spudded-in on April 21, 2020 in Mari D&P lease area in Sindh and drilled down to a depth of 1,202 meters into Sui Main Limestone. The Drill Stem Tests, Sui Upper Limestone Formation flowed gas @ 11 MMSCFD, after acid job. Drill Stem Test carried out in Sui Main Limestone Formation also flowed gas at a rate of 6.88 MMSCFD with 132 BPD of water, subsequent to acid job.

Hilal-1 was the 5th consecutive discovery in Mari D&PL area following three discoveries at SML/SUL levels i.e. Shahbaz-1, Shaheen-1 & Parwaaz-1 and one discovery at Lower Goru B sand level of Tipu-1.
